Samantha Hammond Obituary

Samantha “Sandy” Gunther Hammond, 89, of Vernon Township, passed into eternal rest on Sunday morning, October 31, 2021.  She passed peacefully at home with Ray, her husband of 69 years, by her side following a long season of dementia.

Sandy was born January 12, 1932 in Richfield, Ohio, the daughter of Robert Lee and Norris Carver Gunther.

She was a 1950 graduate of Williamsfield High School and attended Toccoa Falls College for nearly three years.

She worked at Eastman Kodak in Cleveland and several department stores until 1982 when she was hired by the Joseph Badger School District where she served as administrative assistant to the Athletic Director for 27 years.

Sandy was an active participant in the Tourist Club in Kinsman.  She was a member of the Kinsman Chapel of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church from 1950 to 1989 and the Greenville Alliance Church from 1989 to the present.  Sandy passionately served many years in sharing the salvation message with children of all ages, urging them to have a saving knowledge of Jesus.  Sandy married Raymond Daniel Hammond Sr. on August 17, 1952 at the Kinsman Chapel.

She is survived by her loving and caring husband, Ray; a daughter, Debra Anne (Jon) Martin of Franklin, PA; a son, Raymond Daniel (Lynda) Hammond, Jr. of Beaverdale, PA; eight grandchildren, Ray (Lisa) Hammond III, Tim (Amy) Hammond, Bryan Hammond, Amanda (Christopher) Edman, Jonathan (JoAnna) Martin, Zebadiah (Kristen) Martin, David Hammond and Raelynn Hammond; nine great-grandchildren and one on the way; a sister, Jeanette Rossi and a brother, Orville Ross Gunther.

Sandy was preceded in death by six sisters and three brothers.

The family is grateful for the loving personal care offered to Sandy and the family by the Hospice team.

Memorial contributions may be submitted to the Christian and Missionary Alliance, 8595 Explorer Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80920 Memo: Children’s Ministries at Bongolo Hospital in Gabon, Africa.

Friends and family may call at the Kinsman Chapel of the C&MA, 6590 St. Rt. 87, Kinsman, Ohio 44428 from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 6, 2021.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. with son, Rev. R. Daniel Hammond, Jr., grandson, Rev. Raymond Daniel Hammond III and Rev. Howard Darr officiating.

The committal will be led by son-in-law, Rev. Jon A. Martin, at the West Williamsfield Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Galloway-Onstott Funeral Home, Hartford, Ohio.
