Rosemary Straub

Rosemary G. Straub, 96, of Fowler, passed away Friday night, June 26, 2026, at home with her family by her side.

The celebrated life of Rosemary Gordon Straub began February 25, 1930 in a hollow of Newberne, WV.  The first daughter of Earl and Marella Spurgeon Gordon.  They lived on the family homestead with her paternal grandparents, William Wayne and Rebecca Hinzman Gordon.  Her early life was simple, devoted to the family farm.  They had no conveniences but learning everything from gardening, tending crops and animals to caring for family.  She was joined by sister, Sylvia, at 15 months, who she would go to school and graduate with from Troy High School in 1949.  Siblings Wayne and Joan joined the family 10 years later.

She left WV with a friend, Bernadean Hechard Matune for Ohio.  They found jobs in the Packard Electric cafeteria, where she met Charles Straub of Greenville, PA.  He served in Korea for two years.  Upon his return, they were married on February 19, 1955.  He insisted on her being the homemaker, wife and mother as he provided a home in Champion. They welcomed 3 daughters, Tina, Teresa and Tracey and one son, Trent.  They later moved to a farm in Hartford.  They would raise a happy family in church and involvement with music.  They enjoyed entertaining friends by having hymn sings, picnics and sharing baked goods, butter, milk and cheese as well as garden surplus.

She loved being outside tending to the yardwork, flowers and garden.  She was hardworking and always willing to help neighbors and friends.  Babysitting and offering assistance as a caregiver for many elder relatives. Always showing concern for everyone else’s comfort and needs over her own. She loved without regret. She was always smiling, laughing, never complaining.

God blessed her with a long beautiful life.  She attended and supported the Fowler Community Church.  She was not shy about her faith and was singing praises to her Lord Jesus Christ to the end. That day was Friday, June 26, 2026.

She is survived by her children, Tina (Steve) Mack of Hartford, Teresa (Norm) Hollister of Fowler, Tracey (Tim) Armentrout of Audubon, IA and Charles Trent Straub of Hartford; eight grandchildren, Michelle (Jim) McWilliams, Mathew (Keli) Mack, Michael (Ashley Predmore) Mack, Eric (Zephanie) Hollister, Christopher (Brittney) Hollister, Dana (Patrick) Niles, Becca (Andrew) Grabill, Molly (Drew) Christensen; ten great-grandchildren; brother, W. Wayne (Connie) Gordon of Proctorville, OH; sister, Joan Moyers of Rosedale, WV; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many wonderful friends.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles, and sister, Sylvia.

Friends and relatives may call at the Church at 4651 St. Rt. 305, Fowler, OH 44418 on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Dave Pykare officiating.
