Melvin L. Harper, 83, of Burghill, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at Concord Care of Hartford.
He was born September 22, 1937 in WV, the son of Lester and Artie Ketterman Harper.
At the age of 62, He retired from Bock Transfer and Storage, where he was a truck driver.
He loved to fix clocks. He would tear them apart and put them back together so that they worked again.
He belonged to the West Farmington Masonic Lodge.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Mattock Harper, whom he married in 1990;a daughter, Anita Hanick of Champion; three step-daughters, Ruthanne (Bob) Phillips of Fowler, Laura Smith of Brookfield and Carole (Chris) Fedorchak of Lima; two step-sons, Lyle Fell, Jr. and William Fell, both of Burghill; 20 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James Harper; a step-daughter, Terri Mennor; and a step-son, James Fell.
Friends and relatives may call at Galloway-Onstott Funeral Home, 3451 St. Rt. 7, Hartford on Monday, July 19, 2021 from 1 to 2 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. MaryAnn Rufener officiating.
Burial will be in Champion Township Cemetery.
