Mary E. Messersmith

Mary Ellen Messersmith, 79, of Virginia Beach, VA, formerly of Hartford, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.

She was born March 29, 1943 in Michigan City, IN, the daughter of the late Arnold P. Belcher and Helen C. Perry.

She married Gary Messersmith on July 6, 1969 and together raised four children; Sandra C. Messersmith of San Jose, CA, James P. Messersmith of Vancouver, WA, Eric J. Messersmith of Virginia Beach, VA and Rebecca R. Dickerson and her husband, Mark W. Dickerson of Moyock, NC.

Mary is also survived by five grandchildren and a great-grandson on the way; a brother, Bill Belcher and his wife, Michelle, of CA; a step-sister, Patricia Ward of Warren, OH; a step-brother, Ronald Moore and his wife, Martha, of Raleigh, NC. and a host of family and friends.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, her step-mother, one step-sister and a step-brother.

Friends and relatives may call on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at the Hartford United Methodist Church, 6846 St. Rt. 305, Hartford, OH 44424, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a time of gathering to remember Mary.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. with Rev. MaryAnn Rufener officiating.

Burial of the cremains will follow at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Hartford Township Cemetery.
