Leona Mae Champ, 89, of Burghill, passed away at home Monday morning, December 16, 2024.
She was born December 2, 1935 in Vegan, WV, the daughter of Thomas and Sarah Landis Hinzman.
On December 18, 1996, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse F. Champ, whom she married December 22, 1951. Together they raised eight children. After the kids were grown, she worked several years for Yankee Lake Ballroom and Sharon Speedway as a cook.
In her spare time, she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading, gardening, and feeding the birds. She was also a big fan of auto racing, especially of the Blaney family.
She is survived by a daughter, Nancy (James) Morris of Howland; three sons, Bill (Kim) Champ of Fowler, Russell (Corina) Champ of Burghill and Richard Champ of Sharpsville, PA; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Wilda Bennett, and a brother, Arnold Hizman, both of Buckhannon WV.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Madeline in 2009; three sons, Jesse Jr. in 1985, Robert in 2009 and Stephen in 2016; three grandchildren; two sisters and four brothers.

Friends and relatives may call at Galloway Onstott Funeral Home, 3451 St. Rt. 7, Hartford, Ohio 44424 on Friday, December 20, 2024 from 10 a.m. to noon.
The funeral service will follow at noon with Rev. Dan Hockenberry officiating.
Burial will be in Hartford Township Cemetery.
