John R. Wolford

John Robert Wolford, 81, of Vernon, passed away at home Tuesday morning, August 22, 2023.

He was born January 5, 1942 at home in Vernon, the son of William R. and Grace Snyder Wolford.

John was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving from 1960 to 1968.

He worked for Operating Engineers Local 66.  He was a supervisor.

He attended St. Mary’s in Warren.

John enjoyed fishing, mowing grass, gardening and traveling to Hawaii.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Mears Wolford, whom he married May 5, 1962; two daughters, Kathleen (Fritz) Birkhimer of Cortland and Mary Beth (Steve) Zerby of Findlay; six grandchildren, Alex, Breann, Ashley,  Brandon, Kirk and Kaylynn; nine great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ronald (Susan) Wolford of Vernon and Donald (Kathy) Wolford of Masury.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends and relatives may call at the Galloway-Onstott Funeral Home, 3451 St. Rt. 7, Hartford on Sunday, August 27, 2023 from 2 to 4 p.m. 

The funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. MaryAnn Rufener of the Hartford Methodist Church officiating.

Burial will be in Westview Cemetery, Vernon.
