John King Pelton, Jr., 81, of Geneva, formerly of Vernon, passed away peacefully Sunday morning , November 2, 2025, at the Ashtabula Regional Medical Center surrounded by family.
He was born April 10, 1944 in Greenville, PA, the son of John King Pelton, Sr. and Pearl Neff Pelton.
John is fondly remembered by his friends and family and held many positions in his community. He loved being a lifelong farmer. He also worked with his son, Larry, at Gates Farms for many years. John also was the owner of the Pelton Cider Mill, Pelton Concessions and the Country Mouse Flower Shop. He also was a Truck World truck driver.
He enjoyed Sudoku puzzles and cigars, specifically Swisher Sweets, and spending time with his family.
He married Mabel Samuels in the spring of 1980. In 2008, they moved to Fort Myers, FL, where they spent many years on the beach with friends before moving back to Geneva in 2022.
John is survived by his wife, Mabel Pelton of Geneva and her dog, Sammie; four children, Larry (Robin) Pelton of Fowler, Laurie (Jeff) Jones of Johnston, Robert (Kathrine) Hartman of Farmland, IN and Becky Hartman Valentine of Fowler; nine grandchildren, Collette, Dustin (Bobbi), Kyle, Kaitlin (Kurtis), Bridgette, Winona, Holly, Andrew and Robert Jr.; and three great-grandchildren, Gavin, Corbin and Jack, who called him “Big Papa”.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends and relatives may call at the home of John’s son, Larry Pelton, on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 3 to 7 p.m. at 5721 Cadwallader Sonk Rd., Fowler, OH 44418 to honor John.
