            Russell Dale Johnson

Russell “Dale” Johnson, 95, of Hartford, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 17, 2019, in the comfort of his home.

He was born June 1, 1923 in Coalburg, the son of Russell K. and Ethel Vasey Johnson.

Dale was a WWII veteran, being a member of the 4th Marine Division.  He received a Bronze and a Silver Star and also two Purple Hearts.

He retired from Packard Electric in 1989 as a machine repairman.  He also worked at Blaney Lumber and Wean United.  He received his auto mechanic training at Boyd’s Chevy dealer in Orangeville.

He was the oldest member of the Hartford United Methodist Church, where he was a trustee, a coffee maker and part of the set –up crew for Youth Club.  He also belonged to the Hartford Optimist Club and the Hartford V.F.W.

His hobbies were farming and racing.  He raced for 20 years at local tracks.  He drove for George Blaney #64, Dick Neeley #7 and Frank Bennick #9.  He is in the Hall of Fame at Sharon Speedway and Twin State Auto Racing Club.

On November 9, 1945 he married Betty Messersmith Johnson.  She preceded him in death on January 16, 2001.

He is survived by four daughters, Ronda (Les) Hudson of Howland, Bonnie (Ken) Eucker of Hartford, Terry (Craig) DeArment of Burghill and Jackie (Dan) Siekkinen of Kinsman; one son, Michael  (Carol) Johnson of Hartford; nine grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and two sisters, Marvelle Pucak of Brookfield and JoAnn Johnson of Hartford.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, a brother-in-law, a granddaughter and four great grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Hartford United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 36, Hartford, Ohio 44424.

There will be no services for Dale, at his request.
