Shirley Ann Giering
Obituary
Shirley A. Giering, 85, formerly of Cortland, passed away Sunday evening, November 6, 2022, at Shepherd of the Valley, Liberty campus.
She was born September 24, 1937 in Vernon, the daughter of Thomas and Nellie Haun Apthorpe, Sr.
She was a homemaker and she attended Cortland Trinity Baptist Church.
She married Robert N. Giering on November 7, 1955. He preceded her in death on August 9, 2010.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Giering of Niles and Lynn (Paul) Smith of Niles; two sons, Robert (Carol) Giering of Cortland and Troy (Caroline) Giering of Kinsman; four grandchildren, Shaun, Chase, Megan, and Ryan; one great-grandchild, Bennett; and one step-brother, Terry Apthorpe of Niles.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Patty Fonce and Mabel Weimer; a step-sister, Mary Bentley; and a brother, Thomas Apthorpe, Jr..
The family would like to thank the staff of Shepherd of the Valley, Liberty Campus for the excellent care that Shirley received.
Private services will be held for Shirley at the convenience of the family.
