Dolores "Dolly" Jean Messersmith

Dolores “Dolly” Jean Messersmith, 88, of Culleoka, Tennessee, formerly of Hartford, OH, passed away October 16, 2022 at her home with her children by her side.

She was born July 1, 1934 in Pittsburgh, the daughter of the late Clarence and Ethel Mowry Dickman.

Dolly made her home most recently in Culleoka, TN, close to her daughter, Joan.  She also lived in Kinsman for 20 years with her daughter, Donna and son-in-law, John Horodyski. 

She raised five children and then returned to work at various jobs; Packard Electric, a nurse’s aide in Florida and at a K-Mart in Port Orange, FL.  She always kept busy.

 She enjoyed many years with her husband, Aulton James Messersmith, whom she married June 2, 1956 in Hartford.  They had a wonderful life together of 62 Years.  They enjoyed NASCAR races, motorcycle riding and taking care of her two dogs, Bo and then Murphy.  Many vacations were taken with her kids when they were young.  All of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a joy in her life.

Dolly is survived by three daughters, Donna (John) Horodyski of Kinsman, Joan Baker of Culleoka, TN and Sandra Wilson of Burghill; two sons, Rodney Messersmith of Hubbard and William (Tiffany) Messersmith of Church Hill, TN; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Thomas Dickman of CA and her dog, Murphy, who will live with Joan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2018 and her two brothers, Richard Dickman of Hartford and Phillip Dickman of Wheeling, W.V.

Services for Jim and Dolly will be held on October 29, 2022 at the Hartford United Methodist Church, 6846 St. Rt. 305, Hartford, Ohio 44424, with 10 a.m. calling hours and a funeral service at 11 a.m. with Rev. MaryAnn Rufener officiating.
